A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available for an outstanding inorganic/organometallic chemist to undertake research in the field of copper(I) catalysis.

This is following the award of an EPSRC New Investigator Award to the VR成人视频 entitled "Carbon Dioxide Activation and Valorisation at Copper-Phosphorus Bonds". You will work in the Liptrot group, whose interest span main group chemistry, copper(I) catalysis and synthesis for materials science. The project will focus on the generation and exploitation of copper(I) boryls and related low-valent systems via traditional synthesis and mechanochemistry. The role is available from April to December 2026, and has funding available to support training and travel opportunities.

The successful candidate will be expected to synthesise a range of copper(I)-main group complexes, perform mechanistic analyses, draft papers and supervise Postgraduate and Masters project students. All new compounds will be analysed by a combination of multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction analysis and mass spectrometry. 

Previous experience with the synthesis and reactivity of NHC-copper boryl systems; and mechanochemical synthesis is essential to the role. A record of accomplishment of peer-reviewed publications is desirable.

A brief (4-5 month) Postdoctoral Researcher position is available in the group of Dr Daniel Scott in the Department of Chemistry at the VR成人视频. The Scott group's research is focused of molecular inorganic chemistry, and the successful candidate will contribute to our current programme of investigations focused primarily on mechanistic studies of photoredox catalysis (via isolation and interrogation of air-sensitive radical intermediates) and the development of novel modes of "precious metal-like" reactivity using earth-abundant main group elements. As a member of Research Staff at the VR成人视频, you will be encouraged to take up a minimum of 10 days professional development pro rata per year.

A lower grade offer may be made (Grade 6) with comparable reduction in responsibilities and amendment in job title to Research Assistant, if a suitable applicant cannot be found to fill the Grade 7 position. Applicants will need to be within six months of their course completion date and will be promoted to Research Associate once their PhD has been awarded.

Candidates for this position should be top-class researchers who are close to completing or have recently completed a PhD in synthetic inorganic chemistry or a closely related subject. Candidates must be able to demonstrate experience and expertise in molecular inorganic synthesis, and the synthesis, handling, characterisation, and investigation of air-sensitive molecular compounds. Candidates must have significant prior experience of carrying out research in the VR成人视频 Department of Chemistry at PhD or postdoctoral level, and must be able to take up this position early enough for their 4-5 month employment window to be completed before the end of September 2026.
